Following the suggestion of Nick Cho over at www.coffeed.com I decided to try brewing some Nicaragua La Esperanza CoE I bought from Fresh Coffee (freshcoffeentea.no-ip.info with 4 grams less coffee than I normally use. In this case, I used 13 grams of finely ground coffee (using Hario Mini Mill grinder) and 200ml of 85 degree Celsius water. It is definitely more difficult to brew well using such a low dosage of coffee, but I could not discern a great difference in taste using only 13 grams of coffee instead of 17 grams.
Now that we’ve got our Hario products in the store, we played around with them a little bit to see if they can perform well with an espresso machine. We tested a few different grinds on the Rancilio Silvia with success. If you’re willing to put in a little elbow grease, this is a great, low-cost grinder option for your machine.
